Bersik 3.0 'Police violence' at Malaysia reform rally

Malaysian police have clashed with thousands of protesters who are calling for an overhaul of the country's electoral system.

Security forces fired tear gas and water cannon at demonstrators in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett, reporting from the capital Kuala Lumpur, says he himself has experienced "some police violence".

exclsaintz in reply to TheMina1212 (Show the comment) 50 minutes ago

Yup, the government had built a lot of infrastructure for us, but it's just their usual responsibility. We are the tax payer, we pay the tax to government and police as their salaries to ask them to utilize their manpower and our money to construct our country into the better way. It's a fair cycle in the public sector. Do you think is this fair if ur paid money all are corrupted to their own personal pocket? It doesn't matter how government did for our country, the corruption is totally wrong.

edwardthun in reply to TheMina1212 (Show the comment) 2 minutes ago

This rally is completely harmless. The extend to which the government is doing to PREVENT this is astounding. (can they be more obvious?) Then, there are idiots who pretend to go for Bersih and then have their own agendas turning this into a very ugly situation & try to distort the purpose of this rally.I do get along with my friends of different races, it's just politics tht are dividing us.I am ashamed to be a Malaysian& we're gonna look like so terrorist country in the eyes of the world now.

in context, after we pushed past the barricades. we were told to disperse, but some people chose to agitate the police although we knew they were prepared to attack. The police were wrong for being so aggressive, no argument there, but we stained and ruin the bigger BERSIH plan with these petty offences.

Wjwbros in reply to luisalau (Show the comment) 4 hours ago

Why choose to hold protest in a place that is already and surely prohibited by the authorities in the first place? Saying that it should be done in that place because of its historical significance is just a facade of trying to grab more local and global attention when they clearly knew they would be clashing with law enforcers.

debate between the leader of bersih, and KJ representing the Election Committee

virphirod 5 hours ago

The rally was peaceful, and at around 3 pm their leader Ambiga says the rally is successful, and asked the protesters to disperse. But, instead, the protesters started to provoke the police, and rush through the barricade. They even involved in vandalism, and attack police car

From rally, turn into riot. Matured, really

virphirod 5 hours ago

This could have been planned by the authority by infiltrating thugs into Bersih and removing the barriers giving the police the opening to take action. It must be noted that the police did not fire tear gas and water canons into Dataran Merdeka because the police knew they were their undercover agents, their own people.

3232ting in reply to virphirod (Show the comment) 4 hours ago

omg, not that stupid conspiracy again. Face it, not all bersih people are damn holy, stop being too damn biased for once. There are too many police haters thank to someone spreading hatred towards the people.

So can I say that the police car was actually hijacked by bersih people, to crash on others so that they can blame the police later? Sounds stupid right? Just like your retarded conspiracy theory.

virphirod in reply to 3232ting (Show the comment) 4 hours ago

I agree, not all the people who go to bersih are good people.

Some are there for the riot and action.

I have seen the video and i know for a fact that there are people who tried to save the police because they know he was not entirely at fault. (i was there btw)

He was either provoked or knocked off balance at the moment..

The people who threw stuff were wrong and the police should not have driven out into a city full of angry protesters. Both sides are at fault.

The court order covers Dataran Merdeka and the police should have fired teargas and water canon into the Dataran Merdeka. Court order is not a divine order and if the police had shown some restrain, nothing serious would have happen but they have to obey commands from higher up. Then why the police were trigger happy beyond Dataran Merdeka and blocking people from leaving the area?? This is not politics but police brutality attracting worldwide condemnation.

So in Malaysia, Allah has been downgraded to a local deity for about 20 million Muslims. it is ok but the peoples are NOT!

broken548 in reply to MrFattyfatfatboy (Show the comment) 6 hours ago

People protesting in Canberra and Sydney in support of ngo demanding for free and fair election in Malaysia. They love Malaysia but they are against the most corrupted government. Do you know that the Malaysian government bribes news network in Europe and the US and that is the reason you do not hear/read anything bad about Malaysian government. There are many Malaysians in Australia and they are very friendly and if you just open your mouth asking to talk to any Malaysians, you will know.

There are good and bad on the both side, but this rally was for all Malaysian, not only a single race, politicians create racial issues, this is what UMNO did best to secure their vote and positions. Now they're giving citizenships for foreigners to vote FOR THEM.

Well, most of the police in Malaysia are rather poorly educated nor are disciplined enough to carry out their duties.

But I wouldn't say their inherently evil, just really incompetent.

If the protest turns to a riot that means the system is broken. When people start battling the police, its time for a change.
