Locust or Mainlanders? 巴打唱蝗 陸客好火

高登網民「滅蝗隊長」發起的「高登唱蝗團」，昨有七名網民響應號召，在尖沙嘴鐘樓集合後，沿廣東道向內地旅客「獻唱」，大唱《蝗蟲天下》、《香港已黃昏》等多首改編歌曲，­向內地人表達不滿，其後唱蝗團又轉戰旺角行人專用區。

「滅蝗隊長」批評，雙非家長佔用香港資源，要求港府修改基本法阻止內地孕婦來港，「大陸人嚟香港生仔，搶奶粉、搶床位，佢仲覺得嚟生仔係畀錢你賺。」他承認，北大教授孔慶­東的「狗噏論」，與港人的「蝗蟲論」，已令兩地人民矛盾白熱化，但強調蝗蟲一詞只針對小撮內地人，「只係指冇為香港付出，而又搶用香港資源嘅人。」
內地旅客馬先生在廣東道聽完唱蝗團的「演唱」後，即表示不滿。他指，旅客為香港經濟有貢獻，況且香港人也是中國人，不應向對方作出侮辱，「他說我是蝗蟲，即他也是蝗蟲。」­內地遊客尤小姐指，過去曾在電視和網絡聽過蝗蟲的比喻，內心不舒服，認為兩地人民應立即停止互相侮辱。

另外，內地網民流傳發起，昨日在港鐵範圍集體違規進食，聲言會有六萬人響應。港鐵昨未敢怠慢，在車站範圍增加廣播次數，分別以廣東話、英文及普通話勸喻乘客保持清潔，入閘­後切勿飲食。
記者昨上午在東鐵沿線觀察近三小時，發現只有少數乘客入閘後違規飲食，但當中只有一人是內地旅客。涉違規的內地旅客梁太指，因自己初次來港旅遊，不清楚相關規例，無心犯錯­。內地旅客余先生則說，內地比較隨便，衞生意識不及香港強，經常有人在車廂內飲食，但來港旅遊時會多注意。
雖行動未見內地人響應，但有內地網民死撐行動成功。有網民在天涯論壇說︰「不戰而屈人之兵為上策，令到港鐵要多做廣播，已算收效」。

This is quite similar to how Japan's right wing groups are circling around Shibuya/Shinjuku in vans and singing imperial songs through loudspeakers against the Zainichi Chinese and Koreans. The concern is that China may send in some gangsters to rough them up. And if even Henry Tang is drinking in the trains just to defy HKers, then man, HK is screwed. All the better reason to set up an independent country.

@DePuica There is a difference between a jet engine and a ducted fan. Camproni tried the same idea later and it also failed. While a jet engine may be very loosely defined as anything that produces a reaction or jet of air, a ducted fan does the same and is not considered a jet engine. In reality the common use of the term jet engine describes a gas turbine as is in use today and since Whittle/Ohain invented them. Anything else is not a comparision worth making.

German Pabst von Oheim built the first working turbine jet engine. His engine ran before Frank Whittle's engine.

Coanda's thermojet was powered by a piston engine that added fuel to the thrust of an impeller and gained a little boost .

The first jet engine aircraft to fly was the Heinkel 178, in 1939, later followed by the twin jet engined Heinkel 280 in march 1941

In may 1941 the first allied jet Gloster E.28/39 Flew.

The Germans introduced the world first production jet fighter the Me262

@Grommo Whittle had a running engine well before Ohain but due to government opposition and indifference he was prevented from flying it earlier. Von Ohain on the other hand had teh enormous resurces of Heinkel behind him which made all the difference. Still they both independently demontrated jet engine technology. And no Romania did not have a gas turbine engine in 1910...

No, Whittle did not have a running engine "well before" Ohain.

Whittle did not run a turbine until April 1937. Ohain had sucessfully run a gas turbine engine burning hydrogen as fuel in February 1937, generating 250 pounds thrust at 10,000rpm.

Call me silly but I'm pretty sure February comes before April.

@Grommo You are quite correct. My apologies. I incorrectly remembered the date of Ohain's first engine run. My information shows however that his engine was not proceeded with beyond the initial testing and flight of the 178 and Junkers and BMW took over with somewhat fragile axial engines. Whittle's engines developed by Rolls-Royce grew into a whole family of turbojets and turboprops until more effeicient axial engines reached maturity.

A jet engine is a reaction engine that discharges a fast moving jet of fluid to generate thrust by jet propulsion and in accordance with Newton's laws of motion. This broad definition of jet engines includes turbojets, turbofans, rockets, ramjets, pulse jets and pump-jets.

Coanda's aircraft was not a turbojet as it did not utilize turbines, but a rotary compressor. Nonetheless, it was just as much a jet as a jet ski, which qualifies as a reaction jet propulsion system by anyone's definition.

Yes. true . I'd offer that it was more similar to a sort of afterburner for a piston engine driving a ducted fan.

I doubt any increase in thrust from the burner made the engine run any faster the way a turbine engine does of course.

The Coanda, at best a quasi-jet, crashed on takeoff, honest persons will discover. The Heinkel 178 was the 1st jet to fly. The engines in the XP-59 were copies of a British design. Lockheed had proposed an axial-flow turbojet and a canard planform aircraft for it in 1939, but the Air Corps wasn't interested.

Doesn't matter if it crashed or not, it still was airborn and worked. The principle of the propulsion was the same.

Early cars were slow, impractical, noisy, unreliable and nothing more than toys for the really rich. Most people at the time scoffed at them and thought they were never going to replace a good horse. Many of them looked like motorized carriages, but they were still cars.

Hughes H-4 Hercules really didn't "fly" either. Still was a pioneering work.

@Bmxer00002003 - The first Jet to fly was the Heinkel HE178 which flew 3 days before WWII started - it was a private venture and not initially taken seriously by German High Command. The English Gloster Whittle which was commissioned by the Royal Air Force and was built to prove the jet engine designed and built by Sir Frank Whittle was the first fully funded turbojet to fly. It Flew in late 1941 but was deprioritized in favour of prop powered planes that could be build in much greater numbers.

@radulicah OK so "rocket" was a poor description. But using a piston engine to power a compresser does not make a Jet engine. Neither Coanda's engine nor his aircraft worked.

A turbo jet required both the compression of air and the injection of combustable fuel to be ignited to generate the thrust.....Coanda was just full of compressed air!!

The metalogy needed to build turbine blades was developed by Frank Whittle - this was the key to the jet engine reliably operating at high temp.

@tomburley im not familiar with aircraft typer of propulsion but i didnt say coanda's aircraft was a turbojet. yes it did crash, coanda never anticipating the flames that would pop out the front. then engine injected fuel in the airstream and....whatever...there were no officials when the flight happened. anyway just search wikipedia for coanda 1910. they also call it a jet aircraft. peace

De momento es experimental y se utiliza en unas pocas cirugías (por ejemplo vertebrales) en las que hay difícil solución y la cirugía convencional no es nada buena. Además es una técnica muy cara. Ya te digo yo que la gran mayoría de fracturas se van a seguir operando como ahora y que las prótesis de cadera y rodilla, así como las plastias ligamentosas van a tardar muchos años en ser superadas...

@NixVegaGT Pues por ejemplo todas las operaciones que hace en el miembro superior, incluida la clavícula son erróneas, la de tobillo no está bien hecha, la de vértebra no es necesaria la corporectomía, la prótesis de cadera probablemente se pudiera evitar y los tornillos de la rodilla sobran. Vamos que sólo está medianamente bien hecho el enclavado endomedular del fémur. Lo de atrapado en Italia lo dice suponiendo que todo el material es acero y no tiene por qué serlo...

@Pilha76 Depuy ortho makes a proximal Shoulder plate called the SNP which looks alot like that, may even be it. I'm not sure what implant was used for the distal radius.

Nice work! Excellent storytelling and character animation in a medical context. Perhaps you will start an industry trend giving animators something more fun to work on than screws, bolts and bones.

I agree with zucky about cringing when the bones break. From years of watching Looney Tunes, I expect cartoon characters to bounce back like Wile E. and Daffy.
